NVCOG serves as a State-appointed regional planning organization to ensure the efficient delivery of government services, strategic planning, economic development, and environmental management to 19 towns located in west central Connecticut.
NVCOG also serves as federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), providing vital leadership on regional transportation initiatives, including through mapping, planning, and prioritizing transportation projects.
NVCOG programs carried out in concert with local governments fill vital community needs.
The Role:
Reporting to the Communications Manager and Director of Planning, the Communications Associate plays a key role in the success of the communications strategy for NVCOG.
The Communications Associate will help to create and implement NVCOG's communications programs, including but not limited to:
online media (social media, the website, and video creation); newsletters (Mailchimp); and traditional media (press release).
The Communications Associate will be responsible for disseminating NVCOG's mission and vision to both its professional constituency and the broader public.
Responsibilities:
Digital Media Social Media o Coordinate social media accounts by drafting and posting scheduled content, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
o Ensure that NVCOG has a strong social media presence both locally and in relation to other similar national organizations.
Website o Assist with website content development for NVCOG to connect, empower, and inform the public.
o Ensure that new and consistent information (articles, links, and events) is posted regularly and is engaging NVCOG's targeted audience.
Newsletter o Draft content for NVCOG newsletters in accordance with the agency tone.
o Keep up with comparable partner newsletters to ensure that the NVCOG newsletter is always current and relevant.
Print Media Write and edit press releases that support NVCOG initiatives and messaging.
Develop and maintain relationships with reporters who focus on issues related to NVCOG work.
Prepare content/materials for external meetings and speaking engagements (i.
e.
, research briefings, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, talking points, etc.
) Qualifications for Communications Associate Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field; or an Associate degree with 1-3 years of work experience; or extensive work experience in government or non-profit communications.
Experience with desktop publishing programs such as PowerPoint, Illustrator, and InDesign Outstanding written communication skills Experience with public relations materials such as newsletters, press releases, website content, and social media Excellent organizational skills with a focus on detail and time management Experience with MailChimp and SurveyMonkey Compensation and Benefits The NVCOG has authorized a salary range of $45,000-to-$55,000 for this position, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
